So I've been looking at lists of Canon and Legends Star Destroyers and while some of them are quite good, I honestly couldn't use most of them with a straight face.
So I put the question to you, dear forum trawlers; what would you consider to be "good" names for Imperial Star Destroyers? My first instinct would be to use names inspired by the British naval tradition of naming ships after martial virtues, and mix in some Orwellian undertones as well as names that are more subtly ominous than the apparent canon baseline. Find a theme for the ship and it's crew then give it the latin name for said theme. I do that a lot for ships.
I like to do that for ships all the time. Pick an ideal or theme then pick a foreign language and give them the name. This happens a lot when I create my own alien species. To me the Empire screams the use of Latin for things. In general imperial star destroyers seem to be named usually by power projecting adjectives or nouns.
I recall there was a Legends book that explained that the Emperor specifically chose what we might call "evil" names in order to condition the Imperial navy to basically not care about evil stuff. By making them use these names on a daily basis it normalised villainy and made them less likely to hesitate when ordered to do something horrible. Everything about the Imperial military boils down to intimidation.
Legions of faceless stormtroopers. Phalanxes of AT-ATs slowly and inexorably advancing, the ground shaking under every step. Colossal grey warships hovering over restless cities. The name of every ship, especially Star Destroyers, should convey menace, the more overblown the better. It makes sense to give certain military units scary names. For example, there is a British nuclear submarine called the HMS Vengeance which is part of the nuclear deterrent system.
It's mission is literally to just remain hidden beneath the ocean and if anyone nukes Britain annihilate them with nukes in turn so that nobody ever even gets that idea in the first place.
Seems like an appropriate name for a ship that literally exists to make sure that if your country is wiped out which ever nation did it is as well. While Hitler was the evil emperor, I was alluding to, the German culture had been fostering their naming schema for decades.
It's been a couple of decades since I've studied the German leadership during WWI so my memory is sketchy.EVERY STAR WARS SITH EVER
But, yeah, the German leader who kicked off WW I wasn't a nice guy either. As a student of history, I could also ascribe a certain amount of ignorance and stupidity to the kickoff of WW I, but I've also come across some interesting details recently which lead me to consider the fact that, no, Evil! Anyrate a really good source of information on Germany during both wars is Dan Carlin's hardcore history.
His monologues are as exhaustive as they are insightful. He is really good about getting you to understand the cultures involved too while stripping away the hyperbole and melodrama. Yeah, exhaustive. Let's not get off into a discussion about past national leaders' personalities.
That's tangential at best. The topic is naming Imperial Star Destroyers.I'm planting trees with my site. This spaceship name generator will give you 10 names that will generally fit all types of spaceships, ranging from large cargo vessels to small fighters.

This name generator will give you 10 names fit for galaxies, star systems, and other astronomical regions. The names are all based on human naming conventions for astronomical bodies or regions, so while your own alien species might use different naming conventions, this generator sticks to the 3 most used types. The first type are names of Greek origin. They're usually named after mythological figures from ancient Greece. The first 5 names in this generator will be these types of names.
Due to the random nature of a generator, some names could be names used in real life.Rajah rowing team dulwich
The second type used in this generator are names based on the appearance of the galaxy. The sixth, seventh and eight name are such names.

I've tried to make sure all the names in the generator haven't been used in real life already, but it's possible some have slipped in. The last type of names and the last 2 names in this generator are code names, usually made up out of both numbers and letters. These names are catalog names. The numbers specify the entry in that catalog and the position of that galaxy in relation to our sky.
I haven't used such acronyms in this generator, this way it's easier to create original names, and you might be able to come up with some cool catalogs of your own, perhaps named after an important scientist in your fictional world. To start, simply click on the button to generate 10 random names.

Darth Vader's name actually has its roots in Dutch meaning 'Dark Father'while other names tapped strongly into mythology — the name 'Anakin' was developed from a race of giants mentioned in the Bible book of Genesis, while 'Skywalker' is a phrase often used to describe Loki in Norse mythology, and 'Luke' means 'light' in Greek, and has direct connections to the Christian saint.
Boba Fett was intended as a reference to Bob Falfa, the drag racer played by Harrison Ford in Lucas's second movie American Graffiti, while that film also gave inspiration for heroic robot R2-D2, when the movie's sound editor used shorthand to refer to 'Reel Two, Dialogue Two" during the post-production process.

I highly recommend this course to folks involved in clinical study designI loved the new option to send assignments to the teaching assistant for suggestions before submitting the work to be marked. I'll never pass a queue again without thinking more about it :). In many stats classes I've taken other places, homework assignments can seem punitive for those who don't understand the material, but this homework seemed to further enhance my learning experience. I would definitely take another class with Dr.
Pardoe if I had the opportunity. The interaction with the lecturer was good, the book is great, the online book material on software is extremely helpful and the lecturer put a lot of effort into a synthesis of the books contents every week. This was by far the best course I took at statistics. Course administration was efficient. Overall, a pleasant learning experience which is at least as good as any face-to-face course I've attended.
Rasch Applications Part 2 is a wonderful follow-up to the first course. Both courses are well designed and build up over the weeks in a such a manner that they make learning new concepts easy to handleThis course has given me a good understanding of the basics in Rasch analysis. I am very happy that I took this course because I do not think it is possible to just read this kind of information without working with data to get a good understanding of these complex theories and methods.

I really appreciated how how he took time to make sure we understood the concepts. He is definitely the best (along with Dr.

Tal Galilli was great!. He is very patient and willing to help no matter what our questions were. Overall, great course and I plan to take more.
This will be very helpful for the type of data analysis work I doThis course is an excellent follow up to the R basic course. A lot of new and helpful material was added and contributed to a more advanced understanding of R programmingProfessor John Verzani is excellent. It was so helpful and makes us love the subject. If you understand the subject, you start loving the subject and this is exactly what I realized and professor's explanation made me start loving R.
